Dad pleads guilty to having sex with long-lost daughter

A FATHER has been convicted of incest with a daughter he had not seen for two decades.

The incident happened after the 59-year-old spent the evening drinking with his long-lost adult daughter, a month after they were reunited.

The man from the Broomhouse area of Edinburgh later bombarded his daughter with texts which said: “I hope we can still be dad and daughter” and “I though it was what we both wanted.”

At Edinburgh Sheriff Court today (Tue) he pled guilty to the charge of having sexual intercourse with a person related to him.

The court heard the man had not seen his daughter for 20 years when they were reunited in July 2009, following a series of phone calls.

On the evening of 7 August 2009 the woman changed into her night clothes at around 1.30am, before it was suggested that she sleep in the man’s bed.

The court was told the two were cuddling up in bed when the father initiated sexual contact.

The woman waited until her father was asleep and then left the property.

Once outside, she hid behind a bin and phoned her partner to tell him her father had just tried to have sex with her.

Officers who interviewed the woman described her as being distressed.

In the morning, her father sent her numerous text messages, none of which she replied to.

One read: ”I don’t want to lose you again”. Another said: “I am so ashamed of myself.”

Fiscal Depute Liz Paton added: “The man was arrested and interviewed and said it was a possibility that they had had sex because he was very drunk and she was very drunk.”

“He went on to admit that they had eventually had a sexual relationship.

“He said he felt ashamed of himself and was apologising for what he had done.”

Sheriff Kenneth Maciver said under the circumstances he would have to call for a social inquiry report and a sexual offence report, and told the man to register himself as a sex offender.

The sheriff deferred sentence until 12 April.
