A HOODED attacker launched a terrifying attack on a schoolboy as he was playing with his sister at a church.

The 11-year-old was grabbed by the neck, pinned up against a fence and then thrown to the ground by the assailant within the grounds of St Paul’s Church in the Muirhouse area of Edinburgh.

He was described by police as being skinny, was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a red Nike jumper with the hood pulled over a baseball cap.

The coward then ran off and got on a bus on nearby Pennywell Road.

Police believe the bus may have been the number 37.

The white man, thought to be in his 20s, was described as being 5ft 8in tall.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Police said: “Although he wasn’t injured, this has been a terrifying experience for the young boy.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who may have seen what happened, to get in touch.”

The attack happened at 4.15pm on Monday.
