POLICE are hunting for the owner of a vicious dog which attacked a pensioner and her dog.

The brown Staffordshire terrier type attacked the woman last month, biting her hand and shaking her small white dog violently.

The dog was being walked by two young girls, thought to be aged 10 and 12, in Kelty, Fife at around 3.20pm on Friday 18 March, when it pounced.

The younger  girl was described as having blonde hair and a pink coat while the the elder was tall with long dark hair in a pony tail.

The girls are not thought to own the dog.

Investigating officer PC Paul Graham said: “This could have been a far more serious incident with the girls being overpowered by the dog which then broke free.

“Fortunately no one was seriously injured. Our enquires so far have not identified the owner and I am now appealing to the public for information.”

Fife Police are appealing for anyone who has information as to the identity of the dog owner or girls to contact them on 0845 600 5702.
