Pensioner robbed in Edinburgh

After hitting the pensioner the man took his jewellery

AN ELDERLY man was assaulted and robbed as he made his way home along a city street.

The 78-year-old who walks with a Zimmer frame attacked as he made his way along Easter Road in Edinburgh at around 12.20am today.

The suspect was standing in a garden on the route and punched the pensioner as he passed.

The man took his victims jewellery before running off towards Rossie Place.

The suspect is white, in his early 20s, 6ft tall with a slim build and a pale, clean-shaven complexion.

He was wearing a dark anorak with the hood up, black trousers and black shoes/trainers and spoke with a local accent.

A police spokesman said: “The victim suffered a painful injury to his face but did not require medical attention.

“Nevertheless, this was an upsetting ordeal, which saw him robbed of his jewellery.

“Anyone who was in or around Lady Menzies Lane and witnessed this assault or has any information that can assist with our enquiries is asked to contact police immediately.”
