Supermarket racist hunted by police

The man followed the Pakistani woman into the store in Bathgate

POLICE are hunting a thug who followed a woman into a Tesco supermarket while hurling racist abuse at her.

They say the man, who had two young children with him, began shouting abuse at her in the car park in the ‘disturbing’ incident.

He then followed her into the store in Bathgate, West Lothian, continuing to spout vile racist comments.

Staff at the supermarket had to ask the man, who was with two children aged around three and five, to leave.

He then entered a car with the two children and made away after the outburst.

The 25-year-old woman who was the target of the man’s insults is of Pakistani origin, say police.

They said she was shocked and deeply upset by the tirade.

The incident happened around 7.30pm on Friday.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft tall with short light-brown hair

He was wearing blue jeans and a grey T-shirt with the number 11 on the back.

Two children aged around three and five were with the man at the time and police are urging anyone who can help identify him to come forward.

A Lothian and Borders police spokesman said: “This was a shocking and deeply upsetting incident for the woman to endure, made all the more disturbing given that the man had two young children in his care.

“Anyone with information that can assist with our enquiries is asked to contact police immediately.”

Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
