The pair took cash and cigarettes

THIEVES have made off with money and cigarettes after threatening a city shopkeeper with knives.

Two men walked into the Premier Stores in Broomhouse area of Edinburgh at around 5.15pm on Saturday.

They demanded the cash and cigarettes from the shopkeeper.

A police spokesman said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t injured, however he was left shaken as a result of what happened, and we are appealing for any information that can help us identify the suspects.

“We are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was near to the shop when the suspects left the premises.  She is described as having dark shoulder-length hair, and was wearing dark clothing and white trainers.

“Anyone else who saw the suspects in the area, or who recognises their descriptions, should also get in touch.”

One of the men was wearing a white/navy two-tone hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.  The second man was wearing a black G-Star style hooded top and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111
