Investigation after schoolboy approached by man in quiet street

Police

A PRIMARY pupil ran for safety after he was approached and touched by a stranger in a quiet city street.

The youngster fled after he was approached by a middle-aged man in the Edinburgh suburb of Currie at around 7pm on Monday.

Police are now investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have information.

The suspect is described as being in his 40s or 50s, bald except for grey hair above the ears, and wearing a black jacket with a checked shirt.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “Lothian and Borders Police are investigating following a suspicious incident in the west of Edinburgh.

“A 10-year-old boy was walking along Dolphin Road in Currie at around 6.50pm on Monday 8th October when he was approached by a man.

“The male then placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder before the youth ran home and contacted police.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances surrounding this incident and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area is asked to come forward.”

A police insider said there was nothing at present to suggest the incident was an attempted abduction.
