Police have now launched an investigation into the “suspicious” circumstances surrounding his death.

The body was found underneath the bridge in western avenue which runs through Town Park in Glenrothes.

Yesterday large parts of the parks “pleasant woodlands”were cordoned off by police.

Officers at the scene indicated that the cordon stretched to the far end of the park in Leslie, Fife.

The bridge across the park was also cordoned off by officers, causing traffic diversions in the busy Fife town.

The heavy police presence in the park included an officer at one of the parks two play areas.

One local claimed that the man had been chased through the park before his death.

The woman, who asked not to be named, said: “I heard this morning that he was chased. I don’t know much more about it, but that’s what I heard. That’s what people are saying.

“Other than that all I know is that he was found underneath the bridge.

“It’s such a shame.”

Another local said that he was shocked at what had happened.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “You just don’t expect something like that to happen so near to you. Obviously we don’t know what happened, but it doesn’t sound very good.

“I’m just shocked.”

Police are still investigating the death, but say they are following a “positive” line.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm that police are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to the suspicious death of a man whose body was discovered in the Town Park area of Glenrothes around 5am today.

“Inquiries are currently at an early stage, and the identity of the man has not yet been established.

“A cordon is in place in the area where the body was discovered to allow examinations to take place at the scene.”
