Lord Advocate has issued a warning to environmental criminals

Lord Advocate, Frank Mulholland QC has said that those who seek to degrade this country’s environment for their own greed will not be allowed to profit from waste crime.

The conference, organised by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) included speakers and representatives from SEPA, Scottish Government and Police Scotland.

The event was created to look at the scale and extent of waste crime in Scotland and examine the threat posed to our environment and economy by organised crime infiltrating the waste industry.

The Lord Advocate, Frank Mulholland QC said:

“Scotland is a country which has been blessed with a rich and marvellous natural environment.

“It is an asset which produces benefit, social and economic, for the whole of our society.

“But, like any asset, it must be protected from those who seek to abuse and degrade it. Their motive is greed; the desire for illicit profit that can be made by undercutting honest business people and ignoring the laws which to protect our environment.

“Those who seek to degrade this country’s environment for their own greed will be rigorously pursued by every lawful method.”
