The on-board Mariners Cafes all include more than 50% “locally-sourced ingredients”, according to the firm.

The company uses some 67 suppliers across its restaurants, coffee shops, bars and onboard shops. Of those, 62 are from Scotland and 44 of those are on the islands.

“Our retail teams have worked really hard to introduce Scottish produce to our ships,” said Anne Mitchell, CalMac’s Onboard Development Manager. “We are thrilled to have gained a nomination in this tough category.”

The awards ceremony will take place at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh on May 27.

The awards, which celebrate the best of Scottish food and drink, are run in conjunction with the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.

Almost 240 hopefuls entered the 2015 awards across 19 categories.
