Scots shoppers urged to vote in ‘top of the shops’ battle

A GLASGOW shopping mall is inviting the public to cast their vote in the ‘top of the shops’ battle.

St Enoch Centre, located in the centre of the city, has established an award to reward to centre’s stores and recognise their contribution to Glasgow’s retail success.

The St Enoch Retailer Awards were first staged last year to mark the centre’s 25th anniversary, featuring nine categories ranging from ladies fashion to confectionary.

Completed voting forms will be entered into a fabulous prize draw to win a £250 gift card.

The forms are available throughout the shopping centre, from retailers and online, and all votes must be submitted by May 17, 2015. Winners will be announced at an award ceremony on May 27, 2015.

Anne Ledgerwood, general manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: “We’re giving the political parties a run for their money with our alternative election to celebrate St. Enoch Centre’s best shops.

“We are looking forward to a strong turnout and would urge as many shoppers as possible to cast a vote. Our retailers deserve your support for the contribution they have made to Glasgow’s vibrant retail sector. The city centre is recognised as one of the best shopping destinations in the UK.”

Ladies fashion is one of the toughest categories with leading stores including Debenhams, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins, H&M and Superdry each bidding to take the number one spot.

Best food outlet/restaurant is also extremely competitive, featuring established Glasgow favourite Di Maggios, newcomer Ed’s Easy Diner and family staples including Debenhams’ Cafe, McDonalds and Burger King.

Anne added: “As well as being home to many leading high street brands, including Mothercare, Debenhams, Hamleys and Boots, St. Enoch Centre has a number of extremely popular independent retailers such as Kimbles and Moriconi; so it will be interesting to see how our shoppers respond.

“We think our shoppers are best placed to decide our winners because they are Glasgow’s greatest retail experts.”
