‘Relentless’ Dumbarton boss Aitken completes double deal

BY ALAN TEMPLE – CAPITAL CITY PRESS

Dumbarton boss Steven Aitken has completed another double deal after securing Scott Taggart and Garry Fleming on extended deals.

Former Hibs youngster Taggart was a rock at the heart of the Sons defence last season following his arrival from Morton, scoring two goals in 35 appearances.

The 23-year-old has also enjoyed stints at Ayr United and Stranraer – where he also worked under Aitken – and has penned a one-year extension to his contract.

Fleming, 28, joined Dumbarton in 2012 from Juniors outfit Irvine Meadow and has gone on to play over 100 games for the Championship club.

He will formally sign his new deal this weekend after verbally agreeing to another campaign at the Bet Butler Stadium.

Aitken said: “We are still talking to players and agents. It’s been relentless since I came home, but it’s been a very productive time and I’ve got to be pleased.”

Aitken has snapped up SEVEN new signings since replacing Ian Murray in the dugout, with Kevin Cawley, Mark Docherty, Darren Miller, Gregor Buchanan, Grant Gallagher, Mark Brown and Willie Gibson all arriving.
