Former Celtic midfielder John Herron has signed an initial two-year deal with Blackpool after leaving the Hoops earlier this summer.

The 21-year-old has opted for a move south of the border after ending his 14 year association with Celtic.

Herron, who made two league appearances for the Scottish champions, spent part of last term on loan at Cowdenbeath.

The Scotland Under-21 cap joins fellow countryman Clark Robertson at Neil McDonald’s League One side after the left back joined from Aberdeen earlier this month.

Herron said: “I had been at Celtic since I was seven. It didn’t work out the way I wanted it to work out, I had been involved with the first team for four years but it’s a different challenge here.

“I want to progress and help Blackpool, and hopefully Blackpool can help me.

“After I spoke to the manager it was the only place I wanted to come. I had a lot of other options in Scotland and England, including in the Championship.

“But after hearing the progression the manager wants, for me it was the only place to come.”
