Bosses at the company reported that 4.5 million ice cubes were used in a staggering 150,000 iced drinks sold across the UK, as temperatures hit highs of up to 37 degrees.

It is a 43% rise on sales from the same day last year. With the latest predictions that it will be the hottest summer on record, bosses at the firm are predicting they will sell a further 160,00 of the drinks this weekend.

Temperatures in Scotland reached up to 30 degrees, but not all areas were so lucky with the weather.

Residents of Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, were battered by hailstones and a thick blanket of smog covered parts of Edinburgh.

Spokeswoman Caroline Harris said: “We providing a welcome relief both in our stores and with our drinks during this week’s heat wave.

“We have increased our iced drinks and cooler offering for moments like this and look forward to cooling the nation down throughout the summer as it continues.”
