Sir Chris Hoy’s son visits post box painted gold in his father’s honour

SIR Chris Hoy has taken his son on a sightseeing tour around Edinburgh – and showed the tot his golden postbox and handprints.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist shared snaps of baby Callum perched atop a postbox on Hanover Street, which was painted gold by the Royal Mail in the cyclist’s honour.

Callum, who was born 11 weeks early in October 2014, can be seen touching the plaque which bears his father’s name.

Another picture shows his mother, Sarra, bending down to show him Sir Chris’ golden handprints on a flagstone outside the capital’s City Chambers.

He captioned the pictures: “Callum getting a golden tour of Edinburgh yesterday with @sarrahoy! :-)”

Delighted followers were quick to Tweet their joy at seeing the photographs.

Marie Knight said: “Too cute. What a wonderful memory.”

Chris Skellern added: “Glad to see Callum looking well after his challenging start to life.”

Jonathan Hutchinson joked: “You can’t post your son off Chris…not without the correct number of stamps.”

The 39-year-old has used social media in the past to keep his 670k fans updated with pictures of his son.

Sir Chris took to Twitter to confirm the birth of his ‘beautiful baby son’ on October 15 and admitted he was ‘a little shocked’ with the early arrival who was born 11 weeks early.

He said: ‘Amazed, delighted & a little shocked to announce the birth of our beautiful baby son, Callum David Robert Hoy! Born at 29 weeks, today at 2pm.’

He proudly shared a picture of the newborn in his hospital cot shortly after his birth, saying that he was “doing well”.

On what should have been Callum’s due date – December 27 – he shared more snaps of his son back at home.

The sporting star previously spoke of his excitement about becoming a father for the first time.

He said: ‘I think maybe I’m just blindly optimistic that it’s going to be great fun and dead easy.

‘I’m sure it won’t be, I’m sure there’ll be lots of tough things but I’m just very excited. It all seems to have happened at the right time.’

Sir Chris married lawyer Sarra in 2010 and announced on Twitter that they were expecting their first child on June 25.

Since retiring from cycling last year, the star has taken up motorsport with plans to compete at the 24-hour Le Mans race in 2016.
