Scotland hopeful Scott Arfield targets English Premier League return after signing Burnley deal

Scottish star Scott Arfield has targeted an immediate return to the Barclay’s Premier League after signing a new three-year contract with Burnley.

The 26-year-old was a stand-out performer for the Clarets last term, making 40 appearances and holding his own in the top-flight.

Arfield scored twice, including a sensational strike against Chelsea last August, but was ultimately powerless to stop Sean Dyche’s side from slipping back into the Championship.

However, the dynamic midfielder, who retains aspirations to break into Gordon Strachan’s national side, is determined to bounce back at the first time of asking.

After penning his new deal, the former Falkirk man told Burnley’s official website: “It’s been a fantastic journey so far for me personally coming here and experiencing the promotion season, then the fans getting to see us in the Premier League.

“Once you get a taste for that environment with the top stadiums and top players you know it’s where this club deserves to be and we’ll do our utmost to get back there.

“Burnley want to be back in the Premier League and that’s certainly where I want to be.”
