Hearts striker Juanma Delgado heaps praise on “best ever” Robbie Neilson

Hearts striker Juanma Delgado has heaped praise on Robbie Neilson by insisting the Jambos head coach is the best manager he has ever worked under.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has been a hit at Tynecastle following his summer arrival from Greek side Kalloni, netting five goals in 13 games.

He has also ruffled a few feathers with his style of play, with the SFA censuring St Johnstone defender Brad McKay for describing him as “a typical foreigner” following Hearts’ 4-3 win over the Saints in August.

Nevertheless, Juanma is loving life in the capital and has lauded Nellson’s management style.

The former Levante, Alaves and Asteras Tripoli man said: “Robbie Neilson is a young coach and has new ideas. He is eager to work and learn.

“He is the best coach I’ve ever had.”

Juanma admits he is desperate to experience an Edinburgh derby during his time in Scotland – having been well warned to steer clear of green clothes.

With Hibernian plying their trade in the Championship, there will be no clash between the sides this season unless they are paired in a cup competition. It could be the first season since the 1998/99 campaign that Hearts and Hibs do not cross swords.

Juanma continued: “I haven’t had the opportunity to experience the Edinburgh derby rivalry. It is a game I want to play in.

“We have been forbidden to wear green clothes – to remember the colours that Hibs play in!

Speaking to Spanish website highbury.es after returning home during the recent international break, Juanma emphasised the importance of compatriot Miguel Pallardo in helping him settle in Gorgie.

He added: “It’s not exactly easy to understand the way English is spoken in Scotland! I am lucky I have the help of Miguel Pallardo.”
