Adam Eckersley has taken a massive step towards his Hibs debut after emerging unscathed from a development squad fixture against Rangers.

Eckersley, who crossed the Edinburgh divide after leaving Hearts in the summer, is yet to make his bow for the Hibees as he battles back from a knee operation he underwent in April.

However, he played 53 minutes at Murray Park yesterday as Hibs’ youngsters slipped to a 3-0 defeat against their Ibrox counterparts.

Eckersley is contracted to the Easter Road club until January and will further strengthen Hibs’ defensive options, providing competition for the ever-reliable Lewis Stevenson.

The former England under-18 cap made 27 appearances for the Jambos last season as they cantered to the Championship title.
