Former Celtic striker John Guidetti has no regrets over television outburst

Sweden striker John Guidetti insists he does not regret slagging off Denmark live on television – even though the Danes are using his incredible outburst as motivation ahead of their crucial Euro play-off clash.

In the wake of a 4-1 semi-final victory over Denmark during the summer’s Euro Under-21 finals, the former Celtic striker’s pitchside interview went viral after he said: “When you lose 4-1 it’s a bit embarrassing, we are the best in Scandinavia.

“We were superior, totally superior. This is the worst team we’ve met in the Euro Under-21s.”

Now Denmark are using those remarks for inspiration as the two countries get set to lock horns for a place at the Euro 2016 finals, starting in Saturday’s first leg clash in Solna.

However, Guidetti, who received a warning from the Scottish FA in April after making offensive remarks about Rangers during an interview with a Dutch TV channel, sticks by his comments.

Guidetti, who is now playing with Spanish side Celta Vigo after spending last season on loan at Celtic from Manchester City, said: “No, I regret nothing. There are things that happen in football and it’s just a fun thing and it had many viewings on Youtube.

“There are a lot of emotions and I think everyone can understand. We had perhaps misunderstood the things that the Danes said, but somehow it helped us. It made us motivated and made us particularly keen to beat them and we did in a great way.

“And they were probably the worst team we had met in the tournament because we had just played against Italy, England and Portugal, so maybe Denmark was not as good as them.

“It’s just fun, people say ‘you are a little crazy John’ and I say ‘yes, I’m a little crazy’. But that’s me.”
