Former Celtic coach Terry Gennoe insists Paul Lambert is the ‘right man’ to take over at Blackburn Rovers.

Former Hoops goalkeeping coach Gennoe – who made 289 league appearances for the Ewood Park outfit – worked alongside Lambert during his playing days at Celtic and then under him at Villa Park.

Gennoe said: “He is certainly proven at this level and the job he did at Norwich was fantastic

“And given a little bit more financial resource at Aston Villa, I am sure they would be in the top half of the Premier League table.

“If he did come in at Blackburn I know for sure he would do a fantastic job and he would turn things around for Rovers.

“I’ve got nothing but good to say about Paul Lambert.

“I was already at Villa when Paul came in but he chose to keep me in position. I had a very good working relationship with Paul.

“If Paul Lambert had been given the £50 million that was given to the staff at Villa this summer I think his selections would have been better.

“With the financial restraints he had, I don’t think he had the credit he deserved for keeping Villa in the top flight.”

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Gennoe added: “Wherever he’s been, he’s done a great job, and he would do exactly the same at Blackburn Rovers.

“If they appoint Paul Lambert I know he will do a fantastic job. All my experience in the game, having worked for some fantastic managers in my time, I know Paul Lambert is a good guy and would be the right man for Blackburn Rovers.”
