Injury troubles persist for Raith Rovers ahead of Boxing Day clash with Alloa Athletic

Raith Rovers look set to be without key duo Lewis Toshney and Grant Anderson for their Boxing Day clash with Alloa Athletic.

Anderson missed Friday’s dramatic 2-1 win over Morton with a hamstring strain, whilst Toshney lasted just 35 minutes at Cappielow as he tried to play through the pain barrier with a similar issue.

The Stark’s Park outfit have been beset by injury problems in recent weeks, with the whole of manager Ray McKinnon’s first-choice defence nursing problems.

Kyle Benedictus is expected to need a knee operation at some point in the future, Rory McKeown has an ankle knock and skipper Jason Thomson is sidelined with a broken bone in his back. Even stand-in stopper Iain Davidson has a broken nose.

But, whilst Benedictus, Davidson and McKeown are expected to be passed fit enough to face Alloa, Toshney will not play.

McKinnon said: “Tosher is definitely out for the weekend after pulling up again on Friday night.

“Grant Anderson will be doubtful while Kyle Benedictus sat out training at the start of the week with his knee problem, but hopefully he will make it.

“Iain Davidson has been to the hospital about his broken nose but it did not prevent him playing against Morton.”
