Dunfermline manager Allan Johnston weighing up move for former Hamilton defender Simon Mensing

Dunfermline are weighing up a move for Simon Mensing after the former Hamilton defender’s American dream turned sour.

The 33-year-old is currently training with the League One leaders after NASL club Atlanta Silverbacks folded over their failure to secure local ownership.

Mensing made a total of 28 appearances for the Silverbacks, whom he captained, and even came up against Spain and Real Madrid legend Raul in a clash with New York Cosmos.

But the former Accies, St Johnstone, Raith Rovers and Livingston player has returned to Scotland and is hoping to impress Pars manager Allan Johnston.

Dunfermline are short of cover at the back with skipper Callum Fordyce, Marc McAusland, Lewis Martin and Ryan Williamson currently all out injured.

Johnston signed St Johnstone centre-half Brad McKay on loan last Friday and handed the former Hearts defender an immediate debut in the weekend’s 2-2 Scottish Cup draw with Ross County.
