Falkirk defender Aaron Muirhead thrilled Bairns stood by him

Aaron Muirhead has hailed Falkirk for sticking by him after signing a new two-year contract extension at the club.

The defender’s Bairns career got off to the worst possible start when he joined from Partick Thistle last January after injuring his knee in only his third training session and being forced to undergo an operation.

But after waiting a frustrating two months to make his debut, Muirhead, whose deal runs until June 2018, has not looked back and has made a total of 35 appearances for Peter Houston’s side.

Muirhead, who will be hoping Falkirk can close the two point gap on second place Hibs when they visit St Mirren this evening, said: “I’m loving my time here and long may it continue,

“I’m delighted to extend my stay. When I first came I was unlucky with injury but the club stood by me and put me through my operation after only training two days.

“I came as a centre half but with Kieran Duffie being injured I got asked to fill in at right-back.”

Speaking to Falkirk TV, he added: “I’m still learning the position but I’m enjoying being part of a good team at the moment.”

Falkirk manager Houston is delighted to have extended Muirhead’s stay after fellow defender Luke Leahy also put pen to paper on fresh terms last week.

Houston said: “I’m really pleased to get the deal done with Aaron. He is a player who has slotted into a different position extremely well and has worked hard to retain his place in the team.

“I now have the vast majority of the squad signed up for next season and that gives me a massive help when looking towards signing targets for the summer.

“There is a continuity around the club and a feeling that we are all in this together.”
