Former Hearts defender Allan McManus takes up St Mirren youth role

Former Hearts and St Johnstone defender Allan McManus has been appointed St Mirren’s new head of youth development.

The 41-year-old had already been part of a successful Buddies youth academy that nurtured the likes of Jack Baird and Stevie Mallan, but will step up to replace the departing David Longwell.

St MirrenPaisley-born McManus will officially start the role on April 1 when Longwell leaves to become Academy Director at MLS side Orlando City.

McManus began his career at Hearts before going on to play for Livngston, Alloa, Airdrie, Ayr, St Johnstone, Morton and Dumbarton.
