New Aberdeen striker Jayden Stockley has hit the ground running with a goal as the Dons warmed-up for next week’s Europa League clash against Fola Esch with a 3-0 victory over Welsh outfit The New Saints on Monday.

Just days after returning to pre-season training, Dons manager Derek McInnes gave his players a run out in a low-key friendly at St Andrews ahead of next Thursday’s first qualifying round visit of the Luxembourgers.

After a goal-less first half against the touring Welsh champions, who will face San Marino league winners Tre Penne in the first qualifying round of the Champions League, former Bournemouth marksman Stockley headed home in the 49th minute.

Lawrence Shankland doubled Aberdeen’s lead in the 70th minute before 17-year-old defender Daniel Harvie added a third two minutes later.

TNS first team manager Craig Harrison said: “Thank you very much to a strong Aberdeen team for a very tough game. Great Champions League preparation.

“Thank you very much to Derek McInness and all his Aberdeen players and staff and good luck in the Europa League.”
