Freed Rangers winger David Templeton a target for Raith Rovers – when he is fit

GARY Locke has admitted he would love to sign David Templeton for Raith Rovers – but does not expect the freed Rangers winger to be fit for another month.

Templeton was released by the Ibrox club last month after enduring a frustrating end to his stay in Govan.

The 27-year-old made just three appearances last season and managed only 84 during his four years with the club.

Fitness and injury problems blighted his time at Rangers and they now appear to be also hampering his bid to find a new club.

Locke worked with Templeton for three seasons at Hearts and has offered the former Stenhousemuir player training facilities in a bid to land his services, but does not expect him to be fit enough for at least another four weeks.

Locke explained: “Temps is somebody I know really well, but he’s got a knee problem at the minute, so he’s not fit.

“I’ll just wait and see. He’s had a rough time of it since he went to Rangers. He’s been in and out the team, but he has had an injury and he’s still got it.

“There’s no point in bringing him in at the moment, because he can’t play, but once he’s fit we’ll see. He might have other options but I’ll give him training facilities and we’ll see how we get on.

“He’s probably another four or five weeks away from training and he’s trying to get to the bottom of this knee problem at the minute.

“Once he’s fit, I’m pretty sure he’ll have plenty options, but the option is certainly there for him to train with us.”
