Jet-setting housekeeper wanted : Must demo ironing at interview

A WEALTHY couple have taken to Gumtree to hunt for a jet-setting housekeeper – who must show off their ironing skills during the interview.

The “permanent travelling housekeeper” will be mainly looking after the mystery couple’s luxurious home in an affluent area of North Berwick, East Lothian.

But lucky applicants will also follow the couple to the south of France and Italy helping to keep their lives running “smoothly and efficiently”.

Frequent trips to Dubai, where the expat family are thought to live, are also on the cards.

The lucky housekeeper will spend most of their time at the couples house in North Berwick.

The travelling housekeeper is not only required to look after and clean up for their affluent bosses, but will also have to tend to regular visitors.

The advert warns: “Please note, if you are selected for an interview we will ask you to demonstrate some practical skills such as ironing and basic meal preparation.”

The advert posted last weekend reads: “We are an expat couple looking for a full time housekeeper to look after our large home in North Berwick.

“Additionally the applicant will need to have the ability to travel for long periods in south of France and Italy also Dubai where we are resident.

The travelling housekeeper will get to fly off to Paris, Italy and Dubai with the couple.

“Ideally the applicant will not have dependents and would suit a single person with ambitions of seeing other places around the world working for an affluent family.

“Experience in similar paid roles would be an advantage but not essential if experienced in, for example, raising a family over a long period.

“We are looking for someone who can work unassisted and help to make our lives smooth and efficient. If you have thorough cleaning and laundry standards and are able to prepare basic meals, then please apply.

“We regularly have house guests staying with us. You will be required to help us to take care of our guests by organising their bedrooms and en suite, preparing breakfast and other meals, taking care of their laundry as and when required.

Although the salary is unknown the offer states that pay will be “negotiable upon experience”.

The stunning East Lothian property has been split into several properties.

Last year a wealthy London couple posted a similar advert online looking for a £30,000-per-year “discreet” housekeeper.

The job role required applicants to be confident in caring for antiques and artwork and have knowledge of “dealing with designer clothing”.

The cleaner would also be required to keep an eye on a third property the couple are planning to buy in Edinburgh to let out.

At the time Alan Fraser, head of Investment Property Agency based in Edinburgh said: “It’s quite remarkable to have a housekeeper looking after your second home.I would say that’s pretty unique.”
