Bizarre moment “dead” pigeon takes off – and crashes into wall

A BIZARRE video shows a teenager gingerly prodding a “dead” pigeon only for the startled bird to take off – and fly at high speed into a wall.

Zoe Wood and her friend, Keir, came across the apparently deceased bird by the side of a road in Edinburgh.

Keir gives the pigeon a gentle nudge to check for signs of life and Zoe can be heard shrieking as the bird launches itself into the air.

Obviously pleased with his efforts, Keir proclaims “I’m a genius”.

But a fraction of a second later the unfortunate avian crashes head-on into a wall with a sickening thud. Keir can be seen covering his face in horror.

Zoe and her pal didn’t realise the pigeon was still alive

Animal lovers will be pleased to know that the pigeon was then checked by the pair and, remarkably, found to be none the worse for its rude awakening and crash.

15-year-old Zoe uploaded the footage to Twitter on Sunday with the caption: “’I’m a genius’ me and Keir at 9am helping the wildlife.”

Her tweet has already gained over 19,000 retweets and a further 35,000 likes with countless more comments from fellow users.

The seven second clip starts with Keir giving the pigeon a gentle nudge with his foot as it lies motionless in a puddle by the side of the road.

As it jolts into life and starts to fly across the road, Zoe screams, “No, Keir,” whilst Keir shouts, “I’m a genius,” thinking he’s saved the bird.

However, seconds later, the bird flies straight into a wall on the opposite side of the road, creating a loud thud against the metalwork.

The footage ends with the camera panning back to Keir, who holds his hands to his face and bends over in shock.

Zoe’s mother, Vicki Wood, confirmed that the bird was okay after its collision with the wall and said: “They checked the pigeon was okay off film and although they laughed when it hit the side of the garage, it was nervousness and they checked the bird after to make sure it was alright.”

Twitter users have been quick to react to the unfortunate footage.

Daniel wrote: “I just love the thump the pigeon makes.”

Niamh commented: “Haha I’ve already rewatched this so many times.”

Whilst Lauren Hegarty added: “Hahaha no way.”
