Joe McKee determined to ‘make up for lost time’ as Falkirk ace pens contract until 2019

FALKIRK ace Joe McKee has signed a new two-year deal with the Bairns – before vowing to hit the ground running next term.

The 24-year-old joined Peter Houston’s side in January after leaving Carlisle United, impressing on his debut against Dunfermline.

However, injuries soon stymied his progress as he picked up serious bruising on his foot, before suffering ankle ligament damage on his comeback for the under-20s.

McKee finally returned to action at the tail end of the campaign – illustrating his quality with a sensational free-kick against Dundee United in their 2-2 playoff draw at Tannadice – and ultimately made five appearances.

That was enough for boss Houston to make tying him to a new contract a summer priority.

McKee told falkirkfc.co.uk: “I’m looking to make up for lost time, I can’t wait for the season to get started.

“I felt welcome as soon as I walked in the door here. I came in and played a straightaway, but it was just unfortunate to pick up an injury.

“So I’m looking forward to coming back with a clean bill of health and without any issues. I’ll come back fresh and get a good pre-season under my belt.”

Houston added: “Joe is a player that has impressed me greatly throughout his time here. He is a dynamic midfielder who has looked extremely strong both during matches and in training. He is another key part of my preparations for next season and I am really pleased to get him signed up.”
