Former Scotland and Celtic striker Charlie Nicholas reckons a host of English top-flight clubs will be paying close attention to Hoops midfielder Stuart Armstrong in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier.

Armstrong excelled under Brendan Rodgers in Celtic’s treble-winning campaign and has been linked with Brighton and West Brom as he enters the final year of his contract.

Nicholas believes the visit of England is an ideal game for scouts to run the rule over the 25-year-old.

Nicholas, speaking to Sky Sports, said: “The Celtic players are obviously on a high after what they achieved and the one I’m pinning my hopes on is Stuart Armstrong.

“He’s not signed a new contract and I imagine teams of significance in England will be interested, especially if he performs on Saturday.”
