Former Liverpool and Arsenal winger Jermaine Pennant insists he is giving serious thought to signing for English seventh-tier outfit Billericay Town – despite having offers from Scotland.
The 34-year-old impressed Neil Lennon during a training stint with Hibs during pre-season but left the Easter Road side without putting pen to paper.
Ambitious Isthmian League team Billericay have already recruited former English Premier League players Jamie O’Hara and Paul Konchesky, and Pennant, who played in Saturday’s friendly against Leyton Orient, admits he is weighing up whether to join the part-time club.
Speaking to the BBC, he said: “I’ve not signed anything, they asked me to come down and I know a few of the boys.
“They’ve got big ambition. Glen (Tamplin), the owner is throwing a lot of money into this club and he wants to take it in the right direction.
“I’ve had a few offers abroad and I’ve had some in Scotland.
“I don’t have to prove anything to anymore, people might think: ‘What you doing at that level?’
“But at the end of the day, if a good offer comes in, I have to look after myself and my family.”
