Shocking moment crazed man attacks cabbie in street

SHOCKING dashcam footage shows the moment a crazed passerby clambered on to the bonnet of a taxi before attacking the driver.

The cabbie, who was on his way to pick up a fare, had to be taken to hospital by family members.

The driver is still traumatised by the event, and had to have glass powder washed from his eyes.

In the clip the taxi turns right into a main road to find a young man who jumps on to the car’s bonnet before the side window can clearly be heard as it is smashed.

The attack took place on the B509, Northland Road, Derry, on Saturday evening (AUG 5).

The daughter of the man who was attacked shared the shocking video on Facebook, and has thanked the local community for their help and support.

The 34 second clip shows the young man forcing the vehicle to stop by running out in front of it, waving his arms in the air and bouncing up and down as he shouts at the driver.

He then launches himself onto the bonnet when the car doesn’t stop. He holds on for around 10 seconds, clinging onto the windscreen wipers as the driver refuses to stop, before he jumps off.

The footage ends there, but the youth continued his bizarre actions by smashing in the driver side window – covering the driver in shards of glass.

Sunita Singh Hans, the daughter of the man who was attacked, said: “This scumbag not only stopped my dad’s car and climbed onto his bonnet but also smashed the driver’s side window with my dad in the car, shattering him with glass before running away.”

The video now has over 104,000 views, 1,000 likes and 650 comments since it was posted two days ago (SUN).

The driver, who did not wish to be identified, is now in recovery, and his other daughter Nikita Hans praised the local community for their support.

She said: “My father was driving along Northland Road at around 11.20pm on Saturday night to pick up a fare when he came across a group of boys.

Social media users were quick to comment on the disturbing video, voicing their concerns for the driver and shock at the young man’s actions.

Ronan Durnin said: “Nasty and totally wrong. Nobody deserves to be treated like this. Nobody who behaves like this should escape justice. I hope your dad recovers quickly and I hope he knows that we are all behind him.”

Mark Mcconnelogue added: “The man is only out doing a job. I am a taxi driver myself, and they wonder why taxis don’t want to lift people at night.”

Robbie Macfadden commented: “Absolute joke the amount of people on here thinking this is funny. It’s not one bit funny, this man could’ve have been seriously hurt and is now out of work until his window is fixed.”

Nuala Callaghan Cregan said: “Absolute disgrace! I hope your father is ok and that bloody scumbag is caught and prosecuted!”
