Former Hearts, Celtic & Scotland defender Steven Pressley axed as boss of Cypriot side FC Pafos – three months after signing new contract

STEVEN PRESSLEY has been dismissed by Cypriot side FC Pafos after just eight months in charge.

The former Celtic, Hearts and Scotland defender took the reins at the top-flight outfit in February amid a fraught relegation battle.

He proved an immediate success, guiding them to safety and reaching the Cypriot Cup semi-final. The ex-Falkirk manager was rewarded with a new two-year deal in June.

However, Pafos have endured a miserable start to their league campaign this term, claiming just one point from their opening four matches, and a 3-0 defeat against Nea Salamis on Saturday was the death knell for Pressley’s reign.

Former Ayr United boss Brian Reid, who was Pressley’s assistant in Cyprus, has also left the club.
