February half-term holiday destinations for families

February is the perfect time to sneak in a family holiday ahead of, or instead of, the traditional summer one. In many cases, it costs less to go during the February half-term break. Plus, the weather in many beach destination is warm enough for you to indulge in some sunbathing, sandcastle building, and sea splashing. If it takes you away from the chilly weather in the UK, then all the better.

Here are some of the best destinations for families that work perfectly for a February half-term holiday.

Lanzarote

Lanzarote is perhaps the best of the Canary Islands to visit as a family. It’s full of things to do and the beaches are stunning. The price is excellent too. If you book with Holiday Hypermarket, you can be sure of getting a great deal.

Visit the Timanfaya National Park to experience the true beauty of the island, away from the more populated tourist areas. Don’t forget to enjoy some of the many water parks dotted around the island – they’ll keep everyone happy for days.

St Lucia

If you fancy heading somewhere further afield, St Lucia could be exactly what you need. One of the Caribbean’s jewels, St Lucia is where you’ll find some of the most attractive beaches in the world, including the breathtaking Anse Chastanet. For those who love to mix action and adventure with their relaxation time, there’s plenty of hiking and climbing to do in St Lucia, thanks to the twin volcanic bluffs known as Gros and Petit Piton.

What makes St Lucia even more special as a half-term destination is that February falls right in the middle of their dry season. You won’t have a single day ruined by adverse weather and you can make the most of your week away.

Portugal

Portugal is a great family-friendly destination, particularly the Algarve area. The Algarve is full of traditional white washed buildings finished in blue trim and safe, secure beaches that are just right for paddling.

Many of the beaches in this area of Portugal have Blue Flag status. They are safe for youngsters to swim in as the waves are smaller than in other areas of the country. For a beach holiday that will make everyone smile, Portugal’s Algarve could be what you’re looking for.

Menorca

Menorca is another family favourite and for good reason. The sea is calm and clear and the beaches are safe and fun. There’s lots of things to do on the island, from water sports and cycling to exploring ancient ruins and learning about the local culture.

One of the best spots to enjoy a February family holiday is Es Grau Beach. The sea is shallow meaning that the little ones don’t need to fear the water. They can paddle out a long way if they want to and they won’t get into difficulties. Right by the beach is the S’Albufera des Grau Nature Reserve, ideal for a day out exploring the natural beauty of the area.

St-Jean-de-Luz, France

St-Jean-de-Luz may not be the first place that springs to mind when you’re planning a family holiday in February. It may not even be the second or third place that springs to mind – it may not spring to mind at all! That’s a good thing. This gorgeous place in the South of France is little known but none the worse for it. When you arrive at the beach, you’ll be met by a gorgeous view; a huge curve of golden sand that meets the Atlantic and tempts you to paddle.

This area is made for families and there are lots of kids clubs for all ages, leaving parents the chance to relax on the beach.

Conclusion

No matter where you choose to go for your February half-term family break, it will be a welcome change from the cold climate of the UK. As long as you pick somewhere that children are welcome and that offers some gorgeous February sun, what more could you possibly need?
