“Even the swans in Greenock are mental” Video shows cops with riot shields guiding bird home

HILARIOUS footage shows cops using riot shields and a loaf of bread to control – a rogue swan.

The bird landed on a busy street in Greenock, Inverclyde, about 200 metres from its normal home in Murdieston Park.

A pair of police officers armed themselves with riot shields and bread and spent around half an hour shepherding the bird back home.

At least one other officer and two police vans were also involved in helping the swan safely navigate Inverkip Road yesterday evening

Alison Robertson filmed the bizarre operation her home in the street.

Two police vans were at the incident

She said: “From when it lands on the main road to getting it back up to the dam, the whole thing lasted about 30 minutes.

“I grew up on that street and this same thing happened every so often and this same thing happened every so often, if it wasn’t swans it was ducks.”

The video shows the officers, one on each side, using their shields to try to keep the swan on the pavment.

At one point the swan stops and the female officer gently uses to shield to nudge the bird’s tail feathers and get it moving again.

As the bird then turns on to Old Inverkip Road and holds up a car, it is met by a pedestrian who tries feeding it bread. One of the policemen then holds on to the loaf for the rest of the trip.

The undeterred swan walks at its own pace along the street as police attempt to return it back to the reservoir and receives its next piece of bread every time it stops.

The operation lasted about 30 minutes

The clip ends with police directing the swan back to the area its reservoir is located.

Alison uploaded her clip to Facebook with the caption: “Even the Swans in Greenock are mental.”

Karin Mcfadyen responded: “It’s not just the gals in Greenock that cause the drama then.”

Jillian Tipping wrote: “Honestly, riot shields. Don’t see them outside Word Up on a Saturday night but a Swan going for a wander warrants it. It’s laughable.”

Kirsty Hamilton said: “It’s the loaf a breed hahahaha”

Alexander Kerr commented: “To be fair, they are f terrifying.”
