All English visitor attractions are asked to take part in Visit Britain’s annual survey to provide information insight on the sector. The results of the survey have just been published and can be viewed in full here: https://www.visitbritain.org/annual-survey-visits-visitor-attractions-latest-results.

Overall, attractions in England reported a +2% annual increase in total visits from 2017 to 2018, however there was an underperformance in zoos and wildlife attractions with a decrease of -2% total.

Twycross Zoo bucked the trend with visitors choosing the midlands conservation charity for their day out – a huge success for leisure and tourism in the region.

Sharon Redrobe OBE, CEO at Twycross Zoo, said: “We are thrilled with the results from Visit Britain which show that the zoo is placed firmly on the map for visitor growth.

“As a charity, the more we grow the more we can focus on protecting endangered species, saving the natural world and introducing even more of our visitors to wonderful wildlife and the importance of conservation.

“Our hard work and ambitious plans are paying off and we hope that our success continues.”

Home to over 500 animals from over 125 different species, Twycross Zoo is the only place in the UK to see all four types of great ape; chimpanzees, gorillas, orang utans and bonobos
