A RARE Ferrari owned by the ‘Godfather of Punk’ Iggy Pop sold at auction for twice its estimated value.

The Chiaro Blue 1984 Ferrari 308 GTS QV was owned by the rocker between 1998 and 2002.

It sold yesterday through H&H Classics for £40,000 to a British buyer with 61,800 miles on the clock.

James Newell Osterberg Jr, better known as Iggy Pop, was the vocalist and lyricist of influential proto-punk band the Stooges, who were formed in 1967 and have disbanded and reunited multiple times since.

The Ferrari’s early history is unknown, however, paperwork on file indicates that it was bought by Iggy Pop shortly after he moved to Miami, Florida during 1998.

He described the vehicle as a “wonderful car” in an article with GQ, also revealing how he sold his Ferrari 308 in 2002 after a 100mph run-in with the cops.

He said at the time: “I drove the s**outta that car. Then I thought something terrible’s gonna happen, so I got rid of it.”

The car’s previous owner, Kostas Dino Linardakis, confirmed the 308’s provenance writing online: “It was indeed owned by Iggy Pop. My mechanic in Ft Lauderdale  used to service the car when Iggy owned it, and then it was brought to Naples, where I purchased it from the third owner.

“It came back to the Ft Lauderdale area where I live, and when Tim saw the car he instantly recalled it and told me of its past.”

Damian Jones of H&H Classics says: The car started readily upon inspection and remained untemperamental during our recent photography session. The Ferrari is now overdue a cambelt change and would doubtless respond to further fettling.

“There are imperfections to the paintwork but the car’s overall appearance is presentable. A decidedly inexpensive entry to Ferrari ownership with a fascinating back story. What’s not to love especially if you have a ‘Lust for Life’?”
