Scots patent attorney eyes global expansion with new appointment

A SCOTTISH patent attorney is looking to expand internationally with its first recruit into a new role within the company.

Murgitroyd, the pan-European intellectual property protection business, has appointed John Gillies as its first Global People Director.

With two new acquisitions since September 2021, and the company’s staff count now at 440, Murgitroyd is hoping to enforce its position as a leading consolidator in the European IP sector.

Within his role, John will look to lead Murgitroyd’s people strategy, provide support and strategic direction on HR issues and work alongside the company’s leadership team to underpin Murgitroyd’s culture.

The company says that John’s responsibilities within this role this will help ensure that the right training, mentoring and people policies are in place to support its ambitious growth plans.

John joins Murgitroyd from KCA Deutag, a leading international oil and gas drilling, engineering and technology company.

Aside from this role, John has previously acted as HR Director at ScotRail and Director of People & Development at Police Scotland.
