Hearts midfielder set for Tynecastle exit

AARON McEneff could be set to depart Hearts after Australian top-flight outfit Perth Glory made a move for the midfielder.

Talks between the two clubs for what is expected to be a permanent transfer remain ongoing.

However, with the 27-year-old having struggled for game time at Tynecastle it is unlikely that Hearts will stand in the way of a player who still has 12 months to run on his current deal.

A view of the Tynecastle stands from behind the net.
McEneff joined the Tynecastle outfit in January 2021.

The arrival of playmaker Jorge Grant from Peterborough and the form of youngster Connor Smith in pre-season is likely to have forced McEneff further down the pecking order at Hearts ahead of the new Premiership season.

Derry-born McEneff, who joined from Shamrock Rovers in January 2021, only managed six starts in a total of 13 league outings last season.

That was despite being a regular in the team at the end of the 2020/21 campaign as Robbie Neilson’s side wrapped up the Championship title.
