West End Characters: Our favourite sister acts

Few things can break the bond between sisters, which is why we want to celebrate some of the best sibling relationships that have played out on stage. From modern stories to classic fairy tales, the West End isn’t short of sisters stealing the show. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at our favourite West End sisters and what makes them so special.

Elphaba and Nessarose from Wicked

When you think of Wicked, your mind is immediately drawn to the bond between Elphaba and Glinda. However, we also love the relationship that Elphaba has with her sister, Nessarose. By cherishing those ruby slippers, we truly see how much Nessa means to the wicked witch of the west! Wicked has been honoured with the Olivier Audience Award on two occasions and is currently the ninth-longest running musical in the history of the West End. If you haven’t yet seen Lucie Jones and Carina Gillespie in this wonderful production, be sure to book your tickets for Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre today.

Satsuki and Mei in My Neighbour Totoro

Studio Ghibli’s Japanese classic My Neighbour Totoro is coming to London’s West End for the very first time, and we can’t wait to see it. The story is based on the relationship between Satsuki and Mei, sisters who move into an old house together at the start of the production. Mei is led to the hollow of a large tree by two spirits, where she discovers a creature named Totoro. When Mei excitedly returns with Satsuki to show her sister the creature, the tree is no longer there. The journey of discovery teaches us the importance of sibling love, and it will debut at the Barbican in October.

The step-sisters in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella

Laura Baldwin and Georgina Castle play are cast as Cinderella’s evil step-sisters in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production. Extremely funny to watch, the step-sisters bring wit and self-awareness to the roles, which is in contrast to the way that these evil-doers are often portrayed in adaptations of the fairytale. Lloyd Webber’s production is full of laughs, colour, and fun and is an opportunity to experience this all-time classic tale like you never have before.

Elsa and Anna from Disney’s Frozen

It would be impossible to write about West End sisters without mentioning Arendelle’s much-loved princesses. When it came out in 2013, Frozen took the world by storm and a new classic was born. We all fell in love with Anna and Elsa and watched on in awe as they inspired one another throughout the movie. Unsurprisingly, the musical adaptation of Frozen is super popular, and Stephanie McKeon and Samantha Barks deliver exceptional performances as the princess sisters on stage.

Deloris and the Sisters from the Sister Act

Opening in the West End in July, the Sister Act is a tribute to the power of friendship, sisterhood, and music. Disguised as a nun, Deloris takes her sisters on an unforgettable musical journey, helping them discover their voices once again. Beverley Knight plays the titular role, while Jennifer Saunders also stars as Mother Superior. The all-star cast is rounded off by Clive Rowe and Lizzie Bea, ensuring that the Sister Act will almost certainly excel when it comes to London this summer.

There’s nothing quite like an on-stage sister relationship to capture the imagination of an audience. With so much variety and wonderful performances, why not celebrate the trials and tribulations of sisterhood with a trip to the West End this summer?
