Deadline News is now accepting applications for reporter roles in Edinburgh.

Deadline News is expanding and we need determined and energetic reporters to join our highly successful team in Edinburgh.

Deadline enjoys an enviable position for talented journalists who want to make their mark, with many staff joining the likes of the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Sun, Daily Record, The Scotsman, STV and many others after honing their skills here.

You’ll find our stories, pictures and video in all the UK and Scottish national papers and their websites, as well as viral news sites such as LADbible/Unilad, Tyla and overseas news outlets.

Lots of different types of people make a big success of their time at Deadline, but they tend to have the following in common: tenacity, resilience, willingness to learn, and a good sense of humour.

You’re most likely to be recently out of university or college or have a few years’ local paper experience under your belt and eager for a big step up – and your chance to make a mark.

You’ll need to be energetic, robust to deal with the demands of daily news and be able to demonstrate the ability to find original stories. We’re interested to hear about your formal qualifications, but we’re probably even more interested to learn about you as a person.

In particular, what will drive you to dig out great stories, week after week, often in the face of stiff resistance? Any details of work experience which helps prove your interest in the media would also be welcome.

A full driving licence is pretty much essential for working at Deadline as few reporters become the real deal without getting out of the office.

Shorthand is also essential but it can, if necessary, be learned on the job. Please send an email including a brief CV and a covering letter to [email protected].

For an informal chat about the role, call Kirsty, News Editor, on 0131 516 3433, preferably in the afternoon.
