A giant, snow-shooting robot will be unleashed on Christmas shoppers next week.

The towering Snow-bot which was receiving some last minute tune ups last night will take up residence in Edinburgh next week as part of the city’s Edinburgh Sparkles campaign.

Two graduates from the Edinburgh College of Art modelled the 3.9 metre high robot – called Mr Snow – on wind-up, tin robots popular in the 1950s and 1960s.

It will be complete with a gold wind-up key in its back and flashing lights for eyes.

And while this creation will not be mobile, it will shoot snow into the air at sporadic intervals during the day from its stationary position at St Andrew’s Square.

The robot has been created by artists, Thomas Payne and Matthew Swan who both graduate from Edinburgh College of Art this year where the robot has been constructed.
