The pony’s hooves were curled from neglect.

The Scottish SPCA has sent out an urgent appeal for information after a pony was discovered with extremely overgrown hooves in Fife.

The male Shetland pony was tracked down to a small area of land next to Balbeggie Avenue, Thornton, by SSPCA inspectors on Sunday. It had been spotted wandering about the area by a local resident.

SSPCA Senior Inspector Steven Gray said:’This pony has been caused a great deal of pain and suffering over a prolonged period of time.

“We are keen to trace the person responsible for this neglect and urge anyone with information to come forward. “

Anyone with any information connected to the incident is asked to call the SSPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999. All calls are entirely confidential.
