A NIGHT-time “aurora rainbow” captivated residents of one of the country’s most remote communities in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

The arc-like structure appeared above the village of Ness in The Western Isles as the area was treated to one of the best displays of the Northern Lights this year.

Local photographer John Gray, who lives in Ness, on the Isle of Lewis, captured the arc as it developed its shape over several hours.

The arc grew in intensity until the early morning sky over the village was alight with colour, including rare pinks and reds.

John described the display as: “One of the best I’ve seen in a long time.”
