Nicky Campbell reveals bizarre row with jogger after his dog “disturbed” his run

SCOTS TV and radio star Nicky Campbell has revealed a bizarre story where he had an argument with a jogger after claiming his dog was “disturbing his run”.

The tv and radio present told the strange story on BBC 5 Live this morning of when the man confronted him over his West Highland Terrier in a park.

Campbell, 46, explained that the mystery jogger took exception to his beloved pooch after it started barking at a squirrel in a tree.

The disgruntled runner then complained to the Scot and claimed the inquisitive canine was putting him off his run.

During the BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast programme, Campbell told listeners: “I was running with my two Westies and my Labrador the other day in the park.

“And one of the Westies spotted a squirrel up a tree. She’s very clever, she spots them up a tree and she stands at the bottom barking.

“This jogger went pas and said ‘Will you stop your dog barking, it’s disturbing my run?’

Co-presenter Rachel Burden interjected: “Oh come on, seriously?”

The Long Lost Family presenter continued: “I said ‘ will you take your fluorescent top off? It’s an eyesore.’

“Which I thought was quite good under the circumstances.”

There was laughter in the studio and Burden added “It was very good.”

However, the confrontation did not end there.

He added: “We had a frank exchange of views, and then he went all the way round. She saw another squirrel unfortunately and he went past again.”

“Did he complain again?”, asked Burden.

He replied: “Yes he did, and I went up to the tree and went ‘bark, bark bark, go on bark”, prompting further hilarity in the studio.

Campbell’s three beloved dogs are Maxwell, a yellow Labrador and Maisie and Misty, two West Highland Terriers.

Last year his salary was revealed in July as part of a long list of BBC stars and what they earn.

He has presented the Radio 5 Live breakfast show since 2003, having previously fronted the station’s mid-morning programme for five years, and the list revealed he earns between £400,000 and £449,999.
