MORRISONS are investigating after a revolted customer cracked open a pistacho nut – and found a bug nestled inside.

Amy Johnstone’s stomach-churning picture shows what she believes to be a Calocoris bug right in the centre of the nut.

The 17-year-old from Boldon, Tyne and Wear, bought the packet of nuts for £1.45 at the firm’s Jarrow store.

She uploaded pictures to Twitter on Sunday with the caption: “Morrisons what tf is that bug-looking thing surrounded by fluff in my pistachio?”

Speaking today Amy said: “I felt horrified and disgusted when I opened the nut. Also scared in case it was still alive.

“I think it could be a Calocoris bug it looks similar.”

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: “We have apologised to the customer and are currently investigating”.

Calocoris bugs can be deadly or harmless depending on the species.
