STUDENTS have been left horrified after rodents invaded their University of Manchester accommodations.

Ella Bainbridge was cooking her dinner last week when she spotted an uninvited guest – a large rat – helping itself to ingredients in the kitchen cupboard.

The economics student is currently in her first year at the popular university, but claims that despite paying £205 per week, the accommodation is well below par.

In a recent video, Ella shared the state of her halls, including a window view of a dirty bike shed, and how she had been left to deal with the giant rat that was crawling in her kitchen.

The shocking footage shows Ella cooking a pasta dish with ingredients laid out on a central kitchen countertop.

The displayed text reads: “Another stunning scene in the [University of Manchester] accommodation.”

Across from the counter are cupboards filled with food ingredients – one of which lies open as food spills out.

The camera zooms in closer to reveal a huge rat scouring through the packs of food and climbing between each box.

The rat can be seen attempting to reach a box of cornflakes and a tin of custard.

Ella took to social media on Thursday to share the shocking footage, joking: “Make the rats pay rent.”

The post received over 86,300 likes and more than 1,900 comments as many were left horrified at seeing the daring rodent

One person wrote: “Where is it coming from? Is there just a huge hole? I’m so confused and scared.”

Another said: “I’d never step foot in that kitchen ever again after that.”

A third commented: “I literally screamed. God forbid.”

A fourth added: “Would not wish University of Manchester accommodation on my worst enemy.

A study last year claimed that there were more rats than students in the student accommodation.

Many of the students also went on strike in January 2023, as a result of the alleged poor conditions of the flats.

The University of Manchester has been approached for comment.
