A SHOPPER has slammed Tesco over what she calls a “ridiculous” precaution after the supermarket chain added security tags to their duvet covers.

Logan Rhynwood found shelves of bedding tagged and wrapped whilst in a store in Didcot, Oxfordshire yesterday.

The 53-year-old couldn’t believe what she was seeing, claiming that all of the over-the-top security measures makes stores seem as though they are “treating everyone like a thief”.

Video shows Logan approaching the bedding aisle in her local branch as she browses through duvet covers.

The on-screen text reads: “Tesco putting tags on duvet covers now”.

She moves the camera to show piles of duvet sheets and covers stacked up together.

Each item has a huge plastic security tag attached to it, with black wiring crossed over to protect the item from being shoplifted.

Music can be heard playing in the background of the shop as Logan says: “Tesco are now putting security tags on security covers.

“Whatever next? I mean, it’s not as though they’re the most expensive thing in the shop as they start from £10.”

She pans the camera to show the duvet sets ranging between £10 and £36.

Logan shared the footage to social media yesterday, where it received dozens of likes and comments as many were left baffled by the bizarre levels of security.

One person wrote: “[This is] why online shopping is overtaking buying in stores. Convenience.”

Another said: “How much extra has that cost them as well? This is getting a bit mental.”

A third commented: “Chain cover packs on meat will be the next fad. Playing dated music to throw off course. All we need is good prices to survive.”

A fourth added: “My local Tesco has put security tags on tubes of Bonjella.”

Speaking to Logan today she said: “It was Tesco in Didcot in Oxfordshire. I’ve done a few videos about items with security tags on.

“I find it strange that a £10 duvet cover has a tag on. I think those tags probably cost Tesco money.

“Duvet covers are typically low-value items, compared to electronics or high-end merchandise.

“So, the benefits of adding security tags may not justify the effort and expense. Also, it makes people angry,

“My Tesco have blocked all the exits with barriers and there’s an alarm on the main entrance barrier, so if you leave through the entrance the alarm sounds.

“All this security makes me angry because it’s as though Tesco treats everyone as a thief.

“Tesco must have lost some stock to shoplifters, and I understand why alcohol has tags on but to put them on duvets and even chocolate is ridiculous.”

Tesco has been approached for comment.
