Dunfermline skipper Callum Fordyce faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed he suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle at the weekend.

The summer signing from Livingston underwent surgery yesterday following the horrific double injury in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Ayr United.

Fordyce, who also sustained a fractured nose earlier in the game, was left writhing in agony following a robust, diving challenge from Ayr’s on-loan Motherwell striker Craig Moore that went unpunished by referee Kevin Graham.

Losing the 23-year-old will be a huge blow for the Pars, who also surrendered their lead at the top of League One with the loss to Ayr.

Manager Allan Johnston said: “The biggest disappointment is the injury to Callum Fordyce because he has been excellent for us this year.

“Losing Callum is going to be a massive loss for us this year. Fingers crossed he makes a speedy recovery.”
