English Championship side Rotherham United have confirmed they are eyeing Hibs hot-shot Jason Cummings.

The Millers are toiling in the relegation zone and reeling from the recent departure of manager Steve Evans – and they are on the look-out for January reinforcements to fire them to safety.

And boss Neil Redfearn has revealed that Scotland under-21 internationalist Cummings, who has bagged 10 goals this season, is on their shortlist.

United are expected to send a representative to watch Cummings in tomorrow’s crunch Championship clash against Rangers at Easter Road.

Redfearn told the Rotherham Advertiser: “Jason Cummings is someone that is doing really, really well and I wouldn’t deny that we have got interest in someone like that. We’re looking at a lot of areas where we might want to strengthen.”

Hibs boss Alan Stubbs is adamant Cummings is not the finished article – but can see why he is attracting admiring glances.

He said: “There is certainly room for improvement with him and that is the exciting thing about him. He is by no means the finished article. That really excites me as a coach.

“He has got a fantastic knack, as a striker, of being in the right place at the right time and he is scoring different types of goals now.

“From the day I got him, to where he is now – he is a better footballer. His overall understanding of the game is getting much better.

“He is a player who is playing catch-up, but it is sometimes not a bad thing that he has not been coached to death. A lot of it is just raw ability.”
